We don't offer individual tips, but personalized guidance that strengthens your self-confidence and communication—practical, gentle, and effective.

What is assertiveness?

Being assertive means respectfully standing up for yourself: knowing and communicating your boundaries, expressing your opinion, and respecting those of others. This isn't something to be taken for granted. Uncertainty, fear of rejection, or previous experiences can make it difficult. In our training, we combine insight (why do you react the way you do?) with skills (how can you do things differently—right away?).

Who is this course suitable for?

Assertiveness training is for anyone who wants to communicate more clearly, kindly, and firmly—at home, at school, or at work. Perhaps you want to better understand your boundaries, learn to say "no" without guilt, or react less aggressively when something upsets you. We adapt to your situation and pace, so you can notice a difference in your daily life in small, achievable steps. This program is therefore for anyone who recognizes (some of) these:

  • You often say "yes" when you mean "no"
  • You hold back for fear of conflict or rejection
  • You doubt whether your opinion matters
  • You feel guilty when you choose yourself
  • Or you become angry when you indicate your boundaries

We work with children, adolescents, and adults—personalized, practical, and judgment-free. The goal: clear communication that works for you, with greater peace and self-confidence.

What is the process like?

After you register, we'll schedule an intake and determine your goals. During the sessions, you'll work step by step on communicating more effectively and setting boundaries.

Our approach consists of:

  • Insight into your communication style & patterns
  • Recognizing boundaries — in yourself and in others
  • Communicate clearly and respectfully (e.g. I-messages, saying no, giving/receiving feedback)
  • Working on self-image & self-confidence
  • Practical exercises that you can apply immediately

Assertiveness isn't just about “standing up for yourself,” it's also about taking yourself seriously.

Individually or in a group

We offer assertiveness training in two ways:

  • Individual guidance
    Personal sessions where we work together on your goals, at your own pace.

  • Group training
    In a small, familiar group, you will practice with recognizable situations, learn from others and discover how you can respond more strongly and calmly.

We ensure you always find yourself in a safe learning environment, whether you choose individual or group learning.

On-site or online therapy

You can choose how you prefer to receive the support. We offer the training at various locations, namely Zwaagdijk-Oost, Zwaagdijk-West, and Tuitjenhorn. Prefer not to travel? Then online support via a secure video connection is an excellent alternative. During an online session, you and your therapist can see each other and collaborate personally, just like in a face-to-face appointment. This allows you to remain flexible while maintaining quality and personal attention.

I'd like to share my experience with my husband and I about the relationship therapy I received from Joost and Priscilla. Relationship therapy sounds difficult to us, but we recommend it to everyone, even if your relationship is currently strong! We attended therapy with Joost and Priscilla. It was very helpful and comforting to talk together. Sometimes we felt overwhelmed. Joost and Priscilla are very knowledgeable and can summarize topics effectively. We were given assignments to do at home, which we still use in our daily lives. It all sounds so logical, but only when you face it head-on can you work on it. Thank you for your wonderful help!
